Author Event with Pete Kosky

  • Taylor Books 226 Capitol Street Charleston, WV, 25301 United States (map)

Join us in welcoming musician, author, and educator Pete Kosky, whose newest book, Taylor’s Land, was recently published by Mountain State Press. The myopic lens of a small, Appalachian town allows Pete Kosky to thoroughly depict life in the Quiet Zone; an area rich with generational baggage, familial ties, and deep-rooted culture. Taylor’s Land lays out a spider web of characters all connected to a determined Jolly, a former park ranger still grieving the loss of his son as he navigates shifting allegiances, unshakable traumas, and an uncertain future. The movement of the seasons reflects the slow, cyclical emotional patterns of Jolly as he attempts to solve the mystery of his niece’s assault and the consequences that echo within his family legacy. This novella asks the question, would you take justice into your own hands?

Taylor’s Land is Pete Kosky’s third book published by Mountain State Press. Raised in the Kanawha Valley, he is among other things, a musician, songwriter, outdoorsman, and storyteller. He plays guitar and clawhammer banjo and performs each year at the Vandalia Gathering in Charleston, The West Virginia State Folk Festival in Glenville, and Allegheny Echoes in Marlinton. He teaches social studies for Kanawha County Schools and lives in Charleston with his wife Ariana and daughter Claire.
